Dr Slump & Arale
"Hoyoyo!"
Dr Slump & Arale is a Japanese gag manga written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama, then adapted into an anime series by Toei Animation. It is a surreal story where humans share experiences with funny anthropomorphic animals, personifications of things and natural phenomenon. Arale is the strange creation of Dr Slump, a curious character with dubious scientific skills. A female robot with unusual characteristics, Arale looks like a clunky 13 years old girl, in severe need of eyeglasses, very naïve and with super-strengths which she cannot control. All these elements will cause all sorts of accidents amongst the inhabitants of the Penguin Village.
Key points.
Dr Slump & Arale is an irresistible concoction of positive ingredients for a young/adults and adults target. Starting with a very well known author who is the creator of other famous titles, such as Dragon Ball. The Penguin Village is a unique universe, a rural old-fashioned Japanese village where the strangest things happen with ultramodern machines triggering the most ironic circumstances. It is a very funny cartoon, lacking of logic sense but full of humour. Every episode introduces new characters which mimic the super heroes (Superman becomes Suppaman while Tarzan turns into Parzan) and are responsible for even more fun and surreal entertainment. There are some strong symbols too (such as Arales' eyeglasses or cap) which can launch new trends linked to the uniqueness and the identity of this saga. An updated style guide will also allow for new exciting merchandise development!
